ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Megan Thee Stallion

It’s Summer, so ladies, you know what time it is! That’s right, it’s #HotGirlSummer. While you take your flicks and post all those thirst traps captioned #HotGirlSummer, the woman behind this catchphrase is in her bag making Summer anthems for us all. Female rapper, Megan Thee Stallion, isn’t only responsible for this Summer catchphrase but she is an up and coming artist that is killing it in the rap game.

In November of 2018, Megan Thee Stallion signed to 300 Entertainment, making her the first female rapper to sign to the label. Ok sis, talk about breaking barriers. Since then, Megan Thee Stallion, AKA Hot Girl Meg, has been a power force that can’t be stopped.

Megan Thee Stallion is fearless when it comes to her lyrics. She is confident with her sexuality and is unreserved when she addresses her freaky side. Why should she be, though? Do your thing, girl. I mean, she is a “Big Ole Freak”...

That video was FIRE. She was on some real hot girl vibes. “Big Ole Freak” was Megan Thee Stallion’s first song to appear on Billboard’s Hot 100. On April 16, the song debut on the charts at number 99 then made its way to peak at number 65. She posted her reaction to the news saying, “We made it on @billboard hot 100 hotties. I’m working my mf a** off every day! I just wanna tell y’all I AINT NEVER F***in stopping.”

Megan was not lying when she said she wouldn’t ever stop. On May 17, Hot Girl Meg dropped her first full length album, Fever. This album was bangin'. She totally killed it. She was unapologetic and fierce. I think that’s her appeal. She goes against gender roles and she says and does what she wants, when she wants. Through her lyrics, she encourages women to do the same -- to live life to the fullest and not pay any mind to those who critique or judge you. Just do you.

 Megan Thee Stallion is on top of her game and nothing can get in her way. Her song, “Cash S***” featuring Da Baby also recently debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100 and currently sits at number 51.

XXL recently honored her and announced that she was one of the rappers on their Freshman Class, which is a list of up-and-coming artists to look out for.
