Addison Rae's "High Fashion" Is High Pop Perfection!

Addison Rae, formerly best know for her viral TikTok dances, has begun to turn a new leaf -- and a few heads -- in the world of pop music, and her latest single "High Fashion" is helping cement her place there.
Addison Rae is not unfamiliar with the world of social media and fame, first making her mark in our social consciousness back in 2019 through TikTok dances galore. After releasing a string of singles in 2023 to critical neutrality, Rae has seemed to figure out a new niche where she fits. "High Fashion" is not too dissimilar to previous releases that’s panned out for her recent era in 2024, thus following "Diet Pepsi" and "Aquamarine". "High Fashion" is a further embarkment of her recent venture into hyper-pop territory, popularly first considered so when she collaborated with Charli XCX on the "Von Dutch" remix.
While "High Fashion" isn’t necessarily pop gold -- it leans more on pop silver. It’s a simple tune that repeats the sentiment she’d rather have fashion and clothes than drugs, a tongue-in-cheek play on the title of the song. The track is a twinkling synth-pop luxury, leaning on new-wave R&B elements to add a specific oomph to the song’s earworm quality that’s becoming synonymous for a Rae song. Addison Rae is seen licking plates and bowls of silver powder, even seen dancing in it at times, while repeating her mantra of her love for clothes. What we really love about Rae’s recent era is the Sofia Coppola-esque cinematography when it comes to her music videos. The low lighting, along with the artistic turns and flashes, makes everything about her new era feel so well thought-out and critically analyzed that it’s hard not to pay attention to her new venture.
"High Fashion" is one of a trilogy of singles leading up to Rae’s as-yet unannounced debut album. Whether we will get any more singles building to the release remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the Addison Rae we knew from 6 years prior, and even 2 years prior, is no longer here, leaving in its stead the next It Girl of the moment.
