4 Girl Groups On The Rise In 2023!

Written by Tommy Gorman. Published: August 09 2023

Aside from K-Pop juggernaut BLACKPINK, there has been a noticeable void in the pop music industry of what we now recognize as the modern-day girl group – color-coordinated outfits, elaborate dance breaks, feminist power anthems, etc. If there is one benefit to the current drought of girl groups, it allows music fans to pay closer attention to the latest and greatest groups looking to make their name in the music industry and pay homage to girl groups past like Destiny’s Child, Fifth Harmony, and Spice Girls. Here are 4 up-and-coming girl groups doing just that!

1. NewJeans

Origin: Seoul, South Korea

Most Streamed Song: “OMG”

Underrated Track: “New Jeans”

In 2022, K-Pop act NewJeans made their debut with the single “Attention”, which received widespread acclaim and fanfare. The group has been lauded for their sound that draws inspiration from '90s R&B and effortlessly blends it with traditional pop. Their second EP, Get Up, was released last month to rave reviews.

2. Boys World

Origin: Los Angeles, CA

Most Streamed Song: “Girlfriends”

Underrated Track: “Something in the Water”

The U.S. has yet to produce another chart-topping girl group since the dissolution of Fifth Harmony in 2018, but Boys World (whose name is an acronym for "Best Of Your Self") have slowly but surely cemented themselves as the ladies that could quite possibly put an end to that streak thanks to their buttery vocals, lush production, and uptempo bops.

3. Say Now

Origin: United Kingdom

Most Streamed Song: “Not A Lot Left to Say”

Underrated Track: “Netflix (Better Now Without You)”

It was all but a few days ago that Say Now was operating on streaming and social media platforms under the temporary moniker “needanamebro” – but now that their group name is official, fans and TikTok users alike are waiting with bated breath for the trio to add more music to their small but earworm-y discography.

4. FLO

Origin: United Kingdom

Most Streamed Song: “Cardboard Box”

Underrated Track: “Suite Life (Familiar)” ft. Bellah

FLO has taken the British music industry by storm, winning the Brit Award for Rising Star earlier this year and earning a Top 40 hit with “Fly Girl”, a collaboration with Missy Elliott released in March. The trio is likely to make the crossover here in the United States upon the release of their highly anticipated debut album.
