Zayn Malik up against former One Direction bandmates at Teen Choice Awards
Zayn Malik will go head-to-head against his old One Direction bandmates as they both received nods in the same category in the first wave of Teen Choice Awards nominations.
Malik quit the boyband in March (15) to become a "normal" 22 year old, but he has still been shortlisted for the Choice Male Hottie category against One Direction, and fans of the group have taken to social media to vent their frustration about being forced to pick between them.
The category is completed by 5 Seconds of Summer, Ryan Guzman,
Justin Bieber and Austin Mahone.
In the music sections, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea
each earned three nominations, including Choice Female Artist,
which also features mentions for Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and
Rihanna.
Nominees for Choice Male Artist include Ed Sheeran, Nick Jonas, Sam
Smith, Shawn Mendes, Jason DeRulo and Pitbull, while groups Fifth
Harmony, One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer land three
nominations each.
Furious 7 leads the movie categories with five nominations
including Choice Movie: Action/Adventure, acting nods for Vin
Diesel and the late Paul Walker, and Jordana Brewster and Michelle
Rodriguez are up for the female counterpart.
The movie was closely followed by Insurgent and The Maze Runner
with four nods, while The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part I and
Avengers: Age of Ultron lead the sci-fi/fantasy categories with
four nominations. Musical comedy Pitch Perfect 2 also scooped four
mentions in the comedy movie section.
Pretty Little Liars leads the TV drama categories with five
nominations, and will compete against Empire, Castle, Nashville,
Grey's Anatomy and The Fosters. It also received nods for actors
Ian Harding and Keegan Allen, and actresses Shay Mitchell and Lucy
Hale.
The Vampire Diaries scores the highest for sci-fi/fantasy once more
with five nods. It is up for Choice TV Show: Sci-fi/Fantasy, and
its stars Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley and Candice
Accola earned acting mentions.
Austin & Ally, Awkward, Girl Meets World, New Girl, The Big Bang
Theory, and Young & Hungry will compete for the TV comedy
award.
The winners are voted by the public and will be announced on 16
August (15).
