Zayn Malik developing boy band TV series - report

Written by . Published: August 03 2016

Zayn Malik is reportedly using his experience as a member of One Direction to develop a new TV series about a boy band.

The pop star, who quit the group last year (15), is eyeing a career in television as an executive producer of an as-yet-untitled series centred around a One Direction-like band, according to the U.K.'s The Sun.

The show will follow the group as the young singers become global superstars.

A source tells the newspaper, "It's a subject he knows lots about and he will call upon his experiences to advise the scriptwriters on the show. If the series does well, he'll receive plenty of kudos in the industry."

Producers are reportedly planning on making the boy band into a genuine music act who will record and release original music from the show.

Malik, 23, is said to be consulting with scriptwriters and casting directors for the project, which will also be produced by the same team behind hit Hollywood drama Entourage.

The singer isn't the only One Direction heartthrob venturing into the world of TV and film - Harry Styles is currently filming his first proper acting gig in World War II drama Dunkirk.

The project seems to be going swimmingly for Styles, who was recently praised by his co-star, Oscar winner Mark Rylance.

“What’s really surprised me is he’s really witty, really funny - he really makes me laugh," Mark told London's Evening Standard. "He’s been ever so brave, not making any fuss.

“He seems remarkable... one of those people (who has) - Sean Penn has it too - a kind of panache. I look at them and think, ‘How did you get that? How do you get so that life is easy?’ But he has got a lovely, lovely character. It’s a gift.”
