Zara Phillips gives birth

Queen Elizabeth II's granddaughter Zara Phillips has given birth to a baby girl.

The British royal welcomed her first child, a daughter, on Friday (17Jan14) at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in Gloucester, England.



The baby, whose name has yet to be announced, weighed in at seven pounds, 12 ounces (3.2 kilograms), and Phillips' husband, rugby player Mike Tindall, was by her side for the birth.


A statement from the royal family reads, "Mrs Michael Tindall today safely delivered a baby girl at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Mr Tindall was present at the birth. The weight of the baby was seven pounds, 12 ounces... The baby's name will be confirmed in due course."


The little girl's great-grandparents, the Queen and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, are "delighted" by the news, according to the statement. The baby is 16th in line to the throne.
