Actor Zach Braff is set to make his Broadway debut next year (14) in a musical adaptation of Woody Allen's crime-comedy Bullets Over Broadway.

The former Scrubs star will portray a young playwright, David Shayne, who is forced to cast a talentless actress in his production in order to obtain funding from her mobster boyfriend.

Susan Stroman is slated to direct and Braff admits he couldn't be more excited about the project, which is set to begin previews at New York's St. James Theater on 11 March (14).

He tells the Associated Press, "It's thrilling. I keep waking up expecting it to be a dream."

The script, written by Douglas McGrath and Allen, will be Braff's first collaboration with the Oscar winner since he played Allen's son in Manhattan Murder Mystery at the age of 18.

Bullets Over Broadway, which was released in 1994, originally starred John Cusack and Jennifer Tilly.
