Tyrese Gibson calls out Dwayne Johnson over Fast & Furious 9 delay

Tyrese Gibson has called out his co-star Dwayne Johnson on social media after the next Fast And Furious movie was pushed back by a year.

The actor, who plays Roman in the franchise, took to Instagram in August (17) to publicly plead with Dwayne not to push forward with developing a spin-off movie about his character Hobbs as the release date for Fast 9 had been set and they would disappoint fans if it was delayed.

On Wednesday, the film team announced on Twitter that the next installment would be pushed back from 2019 to 2020, and Tyrese shared the news and slammed his co-star for putting himself before the "Fast Family".

"#PSA Congratulations to @TheRock... for making the fast and the furious franchise about YOU," he wrote. "And like you, DJ even if they call I will not be deleting this post... folks see you in 2020 April #FastFamily right? Nah..... it's about #TeamDewayne (sic)."

He then made reference to Dwayne's recent movie reboot of hit TV show Baywatch, which currently has an 18 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

"#3yrs will it be worth the wait? #NoShaw just Hobbs will this be another #BayWatch? Guys guys just relax I'm just a passionate film critic," he joked, hinting that the Hobbs character will be completely solo in the spin-off, despite having fun chemistry with Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw.

In August, Tyrese told fans that he was taking to Instagram because Dwayne had been ignoring his messages.

"If you move forward with that #Hobbs Movie you will have purposely ignored the heart to heart moment we had in my sprinter," he wrote in Dwayne's Instagram comments. "#FastFamily is just that a family... We don't fly solo."

"I have never and will never have a problem with this major movie star he's my brother," he added on his own page. "I want you to shoot it (Hobbs spin-off) just not right now cause the #Fast9 release date has already been announced and we can't let our loyal fans #FastFamily or our loyal fast and furious FANS down on any level from pushing the date."

Fast and Furious 9, which is set to star Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and Ludacris, will now be released on 10 April 2020.
