Actor/moviemaker Tyler Perry surprised students in Ohio last week (ends26May13) by showing up unannounced at a school concert and making a big donation to a scholarship fund.

The Alex Cross star was a surprise guest at a music event put on by pupils at the Finland Middle School in Columbus, Ohio on Friday (24May13) and he thrilled organisers by handing over a $100,000 donation.

The money will go to a foundation set up by teacher Mary Mulvany to fund college scholarships for students from the region's schools, and Perry revealed he wanted to back the cause after seeing the organization mentioned on TV.

He says, "I want to sponsor as many kids as I can."

Mulvany tells the Columbus Dispatch, "Hundreds of kids will be helped by what he (Perry) did."
