Toni Braxton charges kids rent

R&B singer Toni Braxton teaches her pre-teens to be responsible with money by charging them rent to live in her house.

The Unbreak My Heart hitmaker is mom to sons Denim, 12, and Diezel, 11, and although her success as an artist has helped her provide a comfortable life for her family, she is adamant her kids will know the value of a dollar.

In an interview with Queen Latifah on her daytime talk show on Thursday (22May14), Braxton revealed, "They get $10 and $12 a week. One pays me $2 the other pays me $3. They have to pay 75 cents for gas and electric and 50 cents for cable."

While most parents don't follow the practise, Braxton insists she hopes the money lessons will prepare her kids for adulthood.

She explains, "Just so they can understand the value of a dollar, and when they get older you have to pay bills. It was a shock to me when I found out I had to pay bills. I was like, 'What do you mean I have to pay rent?' So I thought I should instill that in my little boys."
