The Wanted star Max George's grandfather dies

Written by . Published: December 16 2013

The Wanted star Max George has been left devastated after he was unable to meet his grandfather one last time before he passed away earlier this week (ends15Dec13).

George was forced to pull out of the band's North American tour earlier this month (Dec13) due to "family matters", and it has now emerged the singer left to return to his native England because his grandfather, David George, had been taken ill.

However, flight delays due to severe weather conditions meant the star was unable to fly back home in time to say his final words to David before he died on Monday (09Dec13).

The cause of the death has not been made public, but according to Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper, David's health had deteriorated after suffering a fall last month (Nov13).

A source tells Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper, "Max is incredibly close to his family. The death has really hit him hard. He was distraught at not getting home before his grandfather died."

The news comes shortly after the Glad You Came hitmakers were forced to cancel their European tour dates, scheduled for February and March 2014, due to "unforeseeable changes".

A statement released by the band on Tuesday (10Dec13), read, "To all our fans in mainland Europe, we're really sorry but due to some unforeseeable changes in our scheduling, we're having to cancel our European tour dates in February/March.

"Rest assured all tickets are refundable, and we do hope to see you again really soon! The UK, Ireland & US legs of the tour are not affected. Thanks for your ongoing support. Lots of love, The Wanted."
