The Vampire Diaries leads Teen Choice Awards nominations
TV drama The Vampire Diaries has sunk its teeth into the Teen Choice Awards nominations, leading all votes with six.
The show will compete for the Choice Fantasy/Sci-Fi TV Series prize, while stars Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Nina Dobrev and Kat Graham will fight it out for the Choice Fantasy/Sci-Fi TV Series Actor and Actress awards, and Somerhalder is up for Male Hottie.
TV talent show American Idol and Justin Bieber follow with five
nominations apiece, while among the artists TV shows and movies
with four nods are The Avengers, Taylor Swift, Pitbull, What To
Expect When You're Expecting and Gossip Girl.
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of
Shadows, Abduction, Act of Valor and George Lucas' Red Tails will
battle it out for Best Action Movie category, while the Best
Sci-Fi/Fantasy film will be decided by current box office
blockbuster The Avengers, The Hunger Games, Mirror Mirror, The
Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn and Wrath of the Titans.
Drive, The Help, The Lucky One, The Vow and We Bought a Zoo are up
for Best Drama, while 21 Jump Street, American Reunion, Crazy,
Stupid, Love, The Muppets and newly-released What to Expect When
You’re Expecting will compete for the Best Comedy Movie trophy.
Movie stars in the mix for the top Drama, Sci-Fi and Action
categories include Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible - Ghost
Protocol), Robert Downey, Jr. (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
and The Avengers), Tom Hardy (Warrior), Salma Hayek (Puss in
Boots), Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol), Noomi
Rapace (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows), Chris Hemsworth (The
Avengers), Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games), Lily Collins (Mirror
Mirror), Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers and We Bought A Zoo),
Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games), Matt Damon (We Bought a Zoo),
Zac Efron (The Lucky One), Sandra Bullock (Extremely Loud &
Incredibly Close) and Viola Davis (The Help).
The Choice Actor and Actress in a Comedy will be a fight between
Jason Biggs (American Reunion), Ryan Gosling (Crazy, Stupid, Love),
Jonah Hill (21 Jump Street), Chris Rock (What to Expect When You’re
Expecting), Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street), Cameron Diaz (What to
Expect When You’re Expecting), Alyson Hannigan (American Reunion),
Jennifer Lopez (What to Expect When You’re Expecting), Emma Stone
(Crazy, Stupid, Love) and Reese Witherspoon (This Means War).
Meanwhile, Justin Bieber, Drake, Bruno Mars, Pitbull and Blake
Shelton will compete for Choice Male Artist and Adele,
Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Rihanna and Taylor Swift are up for
Choice Female, and Selena Gomez & The Scene, Gym Class Heroes, Lady
Antebellum, LMFAO and new boy band The Wanted will fight it out for
Choice Group.
The awards will be handed out at a ceremony on 22 July (12).
