Tamar Braxton hospitalized with pneumonia
R&B singer Tamar Braxton was hospitalized with pneumonia shortly before she was due to perform on reality TV series Dancing With The Stars on Monday (09Nov15).
Toni Braxton's younger sister fell ill midway through a rehearsal at the Los Angeles studio where the hit show is filmed, and she was taken to a nearby medical center just hours before the live broadcast went on air.
At the beginning of the episode, host Tom Bergeron revealed they
still did not have all the details about Tamar's condition, and
were unsure whether she would return in time to take the dance
floor with her professional partner Val Chmerkovskiy.
About an hour into the show, The Real co-host was still not back,
forcing the judges to give their scores based on footage from the
dress rehearsal earlier that day.
In a pre-recorded interview, Tamar discussed her busy week, during
which she was shooting her daytime talk show, and performing
concerts in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Orlando, Florida.
"I believe if we keep working hard we can definitely make it to the
finals," Tamar explained. "It's been a super busy week for me and
Val and I have really had to squeeze in our rehearsals whenever we
can."
Based on the dress rehearsal footage, Tamar's performance with Val
was given a disappointing 22 out of 30.
However, Tamar was given another chance later in the show with a
second routine, this time with a fellow opponent. She and Val were
teamed up with Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter and his partner
Sharna Burgess to perform a number inspired by Cirque Du Soleil 's
The Beatles Love show.
Minutes before they were due to take the stage, Tamar arrived at
the studio, and made it just in time to perform with Nick and the
other dancers. Her efforts helped the team score a respectable
score of 27 out of 30, and she received even better news at the end
of the broadcast, when it emerged she had made it to next week's
(16Nov15) semi-finals.
Had she not shown up for Monday's episode, she would have been
eliminated by default.
