'Super handsome' Chris Pine adopts a rescue dog

Chris Pine has welcomed a new addition to his family - a rescue pup!

The Star Trek actor found his new best friend, a black and white pit bull mix named Wednesday Weld, at the North Central Shelter Los Angeles and picked up the pooch on Wednesday (05Oct16).

A sweet picture of Pine and his new companion on the shelter's Instagram account showed the 36-year-old actor dressed down in jeans and a white tee while cuddling the animal.

"Super handsome guys adopt dogs too! And sweet Pit Bulls at that.#chrispine came to @northcentralshelter to find his new best friend and little Wednesday Weld won the lottery," gushed the caption. "Happy Trails, guys! And thank you for adopting from your local shelter."

Chris' canine addition to his household comes after the actor revealed he is keen to start a family. When asked if he would like to play the role of a father in an interview with The Sunday Times' Style magazine, he replied: "Yeah, sure, I guess at some point. I’m really happy to be working right now and I get a lot of support and love from my family and friends."

The Hell and High Water actor will next be seen alongside Gal Gadot in the superheroine movie Wonder Woman, playing her love interest, military man Steve Trevor.

Pine told The Huffington Post he enjoyed "falling in love" with the actress onscreen.

“It was fun to do some comedy. It was fun to do some action. The part kind of asked for a little bit of all of it, so it was a good time," he explained to the publication.

“I think what’s really fun and exciting about it... different about it, actually, is that there’s a nice love story at the center of an action film, and I don’t think you see that often in these kinds of films."
