Stars to perform at Frank Sinatra centenary concert
Stars including Usher, Alicia Keys and Tony Bennett are to celebrate Frank Sinatra's 100th birthday by taking part in a televised tribute concert.
They will cover the late crooner's classic hits during the one-off show, titled Sinatra 100 - An All-Star Grammy Concert, on 2 December (15) alongside singers Garth Brooks, John Legend, Carrie Underwood and Maroon 5's Adam Levine.
"Frank Sinatra is a voice for all generations. His showmanship and
artistry have remained unmatched since he began performing
professionally in the 1930s to his last recording 21 years ago,"
said Neil Portnow, president/CEO of organisers The Recording
Academy.
"Today, he continues to gain popularity for his classic sound and
signature style. It's only fitting that we join the global
celebration in honor of his 100th birthday."
The concert, held at the Wynn Las Vegas' Encore Theatre, will be
televised on 6 December (15), less than a week before what would
have been Sinatra's birthday on 12 December (15).
The Sinatra centennial celebrations also include the New York
exhibition Sinatra: An American Icon, which transfers to Los
Angeles in October (15), a birthday book of unseen photographs and
a new compilation record called Ultimate Sinatra.
He died in 1998, aged 82.
