Star Wars: The Last Jedi keeps the force alive in North American box office
Star Wars: The Last Jedi has easily outpaced Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle to land a second week atop the North American box office chart.
The sequel to 2015's The Force Awakens, starring Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, added another $71.7 million to its haul over the three-day Christmas weekend (22-24Dec17) to remain at number one.
Its continued popularity left Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black having to settle for second place, as their new take on the Jumanji adventure franchise debuted at two with $36.5 million .
Pitch Perfect 3 was another new entry at three with $19.9 million , ahead of Hugh Jackman's movie musical The Greatest Showman, which opened with $8.6 million .
Meanwhile, Matt Damon's latest film, the Alexander Payne satire Downsizing, failed to light up the box office, earning a disappointing $4.96 million in its first weekend on release, debuting in seventh place.
