Stacey Dash: 'Leonardo DiCaprio, quit being Chicken Little!'
Leonardo DiCaprio "should have checked his facts" before his climate change speech at the Oscars, Stacey Dash has said.
Stacey is certainly no stranger to controversy, and her appearance at last month's Academy Awards (Feb16) was met with some confusion.
When host Chris Rock poked fun at the diversity debate by
introducing the "new director" of the Academy's "Minority Outreach
Program", Clueless actress Stacey walked out to a smattering of
applause and said, "I cannot wait to help my people out. Happy
Black History Month." Her quip wasn't received well though, with
audience members and viewers alike taking to social media to
question her being there.
Now the 49-year-old has courted scandal once again by commenting on
Leonardo's decision to use his acceptance speech after winning Best
Actor for The Revenant to raise awareness of the issue of climate
change.
In a lengthy blog post entitled "Leonardo DiCaprio, quit being
Chicken Little – the sky is not falling", Stacey accused the actor
of having the wrong information.
She began: "Leonardo DiCaprio’s Oscar was truly a well deserved
win. DiCaprio’s speech, you could tell, was planned ahead of time.
He knew he had it. Though I’ve not seen his film yet, I hear it’s
great. But this part of his speech was too much..."
Stacey then cited a section of Leonardo's speech in which he said:
"Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most
urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work
collectively together and stop procrastinating.
"We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for
the big polluters, but who speak for all of humanity, for the
indigenous people of the world, for the billions and billions of
underprivileged people out there who would be most affected by
this. For our children’s children, and for those people out there
whose voices have been drowned out by the politics of greed."
She continued: "He reminds me of Chicken Little, the bird who ran
around the neighborhood and disturbed everyone 'with her foolish
alarm.' (sic)"
The actress continued to cite information from Newsmax and Reason
magazine, who both refute the claim that humans are responsible
for, and continue to affect, global warming.
"There are people 10 miles from Leo starving, stuck on entitlement.
Twenty first century NAZIS to deal with and North Koreans playing
with nukes," she wrote. "He needs to get his priorities
straight."
