Sororities fail to answer Drake's call during Drake University visit
Rapper Drake paid an early morning visit to his namesake university in Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday (05Oct16) after performing for fans in the city.
Students at Drake University have been campaigning online for the hip-hop star to make an appearance at the school since 2009, and their hopes were raised earlier this year (16) when the Hotline Bling hitmaker scheduled a stop on his Summer Sixteen Tour in Des Moines for 4 October (16) - his first live date in Iowa.
On Monday (03Oct16), Drake sparked speculation he would grant the
college kids' request during his visit by commenting on a picture
school administrators had posted on their Instagram page and tagged
him in.
"I'mma pull up on ya (sic)," he wrote alongside the snap.
His remark prompted students to gather on the main campus on
Tuesday and wait all day for his expected appearance - but he
failed to show.
Drake went on to perform for fans at the Iowa Events Center that
night as planned, wearing Drake University gear for the gig, and in
the early hours of Wednesday (05Oct16), he made good on his promise
to visit the campus - although no one was around to see him.
The rapper posed for pictures in the dark beside a large school
sign and uploaded it to Instagram, alerting school officials to his
presence by simply captioning it, "@drakeuniversity."
He also shared video clips of himself outside two sorority houses -
but no one answered the knock at the door.
In one post, he said, "Look. Kappa Kappa Gamma, I'm outside your
sorority house now and you're all asleep," while he added in
another, "Kappa Alpha Theta we out here waiting on you. We waiting
on you!"
Students may have missed their chance to meet Drake on his current
tour, but he has since vowed to return.
Alongside a snap of himself onstage, modeling a blue and white
Drake University varsity jacket, he wrote, "IOWA I WILL BE BACK
EVERY TOUR".
Drake University was named after its founder, former Iowa Governor
Francis Marion Drake, in 1881.
