Snoop Dogg's son had to negotiate with dad for three months for DJ gig

Snoop Dogg's son has discovered that being related to a rap icon isn't a shortcut when it comes to booking his famous father.

Cordell Broadus recently collaborated with streetwear brand Joyrich to design a 90s inspired line that celebrates his rap icon father, but he revealed that it took him three months to convince his father to to DJ at the collection launch. Cordell debuted the line in Los Angeles at the LA MADE event in June (17) but the 20-year-old film student admits convincing Snoop to support his project wasn't that simple.

"It was very hard. Very hard. It took us three months to book him," he sighed in an interview with I-D magazine. "They had to put an offer on the table, negotiation payment, check dates, the whole shebang. I think he just liked making it difficult for me, to challenge me, to see how bad I really wanted it."

The talented former college football athlete turned filmmaker has modeled for Dolce and Gabbana in a varied career portfolio that he admits been inspired in part by his equally versatile father who, as well as making rap hits, has found a new audience on TV show Martha & Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party alongside homemaking icon Martha Stewart.

"My dad is my mentor, so I gotta give him a lot of credit... but I think it's just my generation: I believe we want to create in every way possible, and not just doing one thing. We doing multiple things. Nobody's really just having one career," Cordell added.

And despite making his son sweat over the DJ gig, Cordell acknowledged that his 45-year-old father of four is always on hand to deliver an inspirational pep talk to his son.

"One thing he tells me is - nobody's gonna believe in your dream like you believe in it. Because they just can't see it how you see it," he smiled. "So anybody out there that's got a dream, chase it and believe it 100 per cent and it's gonna come true. You've just gotta follow your heart."
