Snoop Dogg helped to make this Christmas (13) a memorable one for homeless children in Los Angeles by teaming up with rap pal Yg to donate $10,000 for gifts.

Toot It and Boot It star YG decided to host his first annual Holiday Shopping Spree event to give back to youngsters at the Los Angeles County Group Homes and encouraged kids to get involved by entering an essay contest.

He chose 60 winners and treated them to a trip to Westfield Culver City mall in California just before the holidays, and he has now released a short video documentary of the trip online.

In the clip, which features messages of thanks from some of the youths, YG says, "I got, like, 60 underprivileged kids from homeless shelters all over Los Angeles County... We spent $10,000... Snoop Dogg put in some money..."

They weren't the only rappers caught up in the spirit of giving over the festive period - veteran hip-hop star E-40 handed over $10,000 to The Salvation Army in his hometown of Vallejo, California.

He says, "I'm no better than anyone else. I'm just playing my part. I can't save the world, but I do what I can to save my community."
