Shona Rhimes: 'Katherine Heigl won't be returning to Grey's Anatomy'

Grey'S Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes has dashed Katherine Heigl's dream of returning to the hit TV show, insisting "I don't think that's happening".

The actress got her big break playing popular character Dr. Izzie Stevens for six years on the medical drama, but quit the series after adopting her daughter Naleigh in late 2009.

Heigl recently revealed her desire to return to the role and her former co-star Patrick Dempsey admitted he would love to see her back on set, stating, "She was a great loss to the show, in my opinion. She had a great character. She's a wonderful actress and I would always welcome her back, certainly."

However, Rhimes has no plans to write Heigl back into the script.

She tells TV Guide Magazine, "No, I don't think that's happening. We are on a track we have been planning, and the idea of changing that track is not something we are interested in right now. (It's) really nice to hear (Heigl) appreciating the show."
