Shakira up for top charity award
Colombian superstar Shakira has been nominated for a prestigious award in Spain in recognition of her endless charity work.
The Hips Don't Lie hitmaker, a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, is shortlisted for the Prince of Asturias Concord honor, which celebrates individuals "whose work has significantly contributed to fostering peace, the defense of human rights, freedom, solidarity, the safeguarding of heritage, or, in general, the progress of humanity".
The singer established her educational organization, the Barefoot
Foundation, when she was 18 and last year (11) used funds raised
through the charity to build schools in her native Colombia and
Haiti.
Previous recipients of the Concord accolade include world renowned
scientist Stephen Hawking and Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.
