Selena Gomez: 'I didn't use my cellphone for three months during hiatus'

Singer/actress Selena Gomez gave up her cell phone during her recent hiatus, insisting it was important to her health to disconnect.

The Come and Get It singer, who was diagnosed with lupus in 2014, announced in late August (16) she was taking an indefinite break from her world tour in order to focus on getting well.

She has been laying low ever since, but last month (Nov16) she resurfaced and made an appearance at the American Music Awards, where she gave an impassioned speech about being "broken".

The 24-year-old now reveals she made sure she was off the grid during her break, by limiting people's access to her.

"I recently took 90 days off," she says in a questionnaire for Thrive Global. "During that time I did not have my cellphone. It was the most refreshing, calming, rejuvenating feeling. Now I rarely pick up my phone, and only limited people have access to me."

Selena explains she no longer feels addicted to her cellphone and makes sure to spend more time focusing on other activities and routines to start her day and fill her time.

"(My morning routine consists of) drinking water, stretching and taking a deep breath, (and I use) self-affirmations, cooking or napping (to fill my free time)," she adds.

Selena was praised by many of her fellow celebrities, including Lady Gaga and pal Taylor Swift, following her American Music Awards speech, in which she said, "I think it's safe to say most of you know my life whether I liked it or not. And I had to stop. Because I had everything. And I was absolutely broken inside. I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down, but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down."

"All I can say from the bottom of my heart is I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to be able to share what I love every single day with people that I love... If you are broken, you do not have to stay broken," she added.
