Sam Smith regrets publicly touting his relationship with his ex-boyfriend in the early stages of their romance

The Stay With Me singer briefly dated model Jonathan Zeizal last year (15), and Sam documented their time together with playful snaps of them on Instagram.com.

However, the romance soon fizzled out and Sam now admits he made the wrong decision by going public with their relationship long before it got serious.

"It was my fault," Sam tells People magazine. "I fell in love with him. I shouldn't have done that."

He also tells ES magazine, "I made a mistake by posting pictures of us on Instagram and making it seem more serious than it was. I've learned that I need to hold off before I start getting the public involved."

Despite their break-up, Sam adds they've put the past behind them, adding, "We're still friends. It's all good."
