Sam Smith cancels Australian tour

British singer Sam Smith has cancelled the remaining dates on his Australian tour after suffering a vocal cord haemorrhage.

The Stay With Me hitmaker took to Instagram.com on Tuesday (28Apr15) to tell fans he must postpone four gigs and cancel an appearance at Sunday night's (03May15) Logie Awards in Melbourne on doctor's orders.

He writes, "I am deeply, deeply saddened to tell my Australian fans, I have to cancel my Australian tour. I have been vocally exhausted for a while now however last night in Sydney I had a small haemorrhage on my vocal cords. The doctors have told me I need to fully rest until my vocal cords have healed, otherwise this could become a huge long-term issue. I am so sorry to all who have bought tickets, I truly am. We will be announcing re-arranged dates very shortly. This kills me."

A statement from organisers Frontier Touring reads, "Frontier Touring regret to advise that on doctor's orders Sam Smith has been forced to cancel all remaining dates for his Australian tour, including an appearance at the 57th TV Week Logie Awards."

Smith was due to play at Hordern Pavilion in Sydney on Tuesday, followed by three more dates Down Under. Tour bosses revealed they are working on rescheduling the shows for December (15).
