Room wins seven honors at Irish Film and TV Awards

Acclaimed drama Room was the big winner at the Irish Film and TV Awards on Saturday (09Apr16).


The movie, which was produced by Ireland's Element Pictures, picked up awards for Best Film, Best Script Film, Best Director, Editing, and Original Music, while Oscar winner Brie Larson was named Best International Actress.


Liam Neeson was also honored with the Outstanding Contribution to Cinema Award, which was presented to him by Irish President Michael D. Higgins.


In a red carpet interview with RTE, the Taken star confessed he was "honored" and "flattered" by his latest accolade, but also added, "It's a little embarrassing."


Actress and humanitarian Roma Downey was also among those saluted - she was presented with the Irish Diaspora Award by rocker and Live Aid hero Bob Geldof.


There were also trophies for Michael Fassbender (Best Lead Actor for Steve Jobs), Saoirse Ronan (Best Lead Actress for Brooklyn), and Oscar winners Spotlight (Best International Film), and Leonardo DiCaprio (Best International Actor)
