Rihanna scores first Billboard album chart number one and doubles up with Diamonds
Rihanna has completed her first chart double by rocketing to the top of the Billboard album countdown for the first time.
Fans rushed out to pick up Unapologetic last week (beg19Nov12) and sent the new release to number one on the Billboard 200 countdown with 238,000 sales.
The album is the prolific R+B star's seventh since her 2005
debut.
The feat means the Bajan beauty reigns as the queen of both the
album and singles chart in America - her hit Diamonds has scored a
second week at number one on the Hot 100.
She becomes the second artist this year to land number ones on both
main Billboard charts this year (12) - Adele managed the feat over
three weeks in February (12) with the hit album 21 and her song Set
Fire to the Rain.
Rihanna celebrated her album success early, on Tuesday night
(27Nov12), by tweeting the big news to fans.
She wrote, "UNAPOLOGETIC just debuted at #1 in AMERICA!!!!! My
first number 1 album there!!! Thank you Navy (fans), u deserve
it..."
Taylor Swift's Red stays put at two on the new Billboard 200 chart,
while One Direction's Take Me Home, which debuted at number one
last week (ends23Nov12), falls to three.
American Idol winner Phillip Phillips scores a top five with his
first album The World From the Side of the Moon, which enters the
countdown at four and Kid Rock lands his seventh top 10 album as
Rebel Soul debuts at five.
Meanwhile, Ke$ha's Die Young jumps up a spot to two on the new Hot
100 singles chart, while Maroon 5's former nine-week number one,
One More Night, drops another spot to three.
