Rihanna: 'I would love to win an Oscar'
Singer Rihanna has set her sights on winning an Academy Award.
The Work hitmaker will soon be seen starring as shape-shifting entertainer Bubble in Luc Besson's upcoming science fiction movie Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets, based on French comic series Valerian And Laureline.
Already one of the most successful stars in the music industry, with a haul of eight Grammy awards, the singer has revealed in a new interview with British newspaper The Sun on Sunday that she wouldn't mind adding a prestigious Academy Award to her trophy cabinet.
"I'd love to get there one day," she smiled. "Who doesn't want to be told they are doing a great job? Any validation that your work is impacting is rewarding. I work hard and put my all into everything I do but the rest isn’t up to me.
"What you do is work as hard as you can and if awards follow, then that’s great," she said, adding that she doesn't do "diva" on movie sets.
Rihanna has been quietly building her movie and TV resume. She recently had a recurring role on Bates Motel as iconic Hitchcock character Marion Crane in the final season of Psycho prequel, and she was cast alongside Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway in the all-female heist movie Ocean’s Eight.
Director Besson has been full of praise for the singer's work ethic on set, admitting he was surprised by how easy she was to work with despite the many challenges of her busy career.
“What was amazing was all the entourage is out, she's on the set by herself, totally open, and you can mould her how you want,” he told publication Business Insider. “There's no distance, nothing. She waits for you to do something with her. She offers herself like clay.
“I think her schedule is worse than any president in the world - I couldn't believe it," he exclaimed. "She can land at midnight, work until 2am, and I thought I was busy. But she's the queen.”
Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets begins hitting theaters from 21 July (17).
