Reese Witherspoon settles jewellery lawsuit
Reese Witherspoon has called off a trial over trademark and publicity infringement allegations after settling a lawsuit.
The Legally Blonde actress sued retail business Sears and various defendants in 2013 for allegedly using her name to sell necklaces, earrings, and replicas of her wedding ring on the Sears e-commerce website.
In November (15), Sears executives argued they could not be held
liable for violating her trademark and publicity rights for
products sold by third-party businesses on their website.
Their argument was rejected, and the case was set for trial later
this month (Feb16). It is not known if Witherspoon was scheduled to
testify.
Witherspoon has now reached an agreement with all defendants, her
attorney Charles Harder has confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
The parties told a California judge last week (ends14Feb16) they
had resolved the case.
