Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Connell paying to sell their own wine
Hollywood couple Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Connell have yet to make a profit on their own brand of California wine, five years after entering the business.
Jerry Maguire star O'Connell planted 800 grapevines on their Calabasas, California estate in 2006, and they bottled the wine in 2008.
Romijn admits she was doubtful about the quality of their Wagon
Wheel Wine, but she has been pleasantly surprised by the Syrah mix,
and they have since started to sell the fruits of their labor to
local restaurants.
However, the X-Men actress confesses their side-business has yet to
turn a profit, despite offloading an estimated 1,500 bottles so
far.
She tells talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, "We thought it would be
headache s**t wine and it's actually OK... It's a nice table wine
and we are currently selling it at some restaurants in our
area...
"We're not breaking even. I think were still paying for our hobby.
But yeah, man, we're doing OK and the wine is OK."
Romijn goes on to reveal O'Connell is really enjoying his pastime
as a celebrity vintner and has adopted a hands-on approach to sell
the wine without a professional distributor.
She explains, "He'll walk out in his Wagon Wheel Wine T-shirt,
which I had made for him, and a briefcase - like an old '70s-style
briefcase that you have to put on the table and it's got the
combination - and you open it up and inside there's one bottle of
wine."
The O'Connells are not the only stars to make their own wine - pop
star Fergie, director Francis Ford Coppola, actress Drew Barrymore
and Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are also among the world's
celebrity vintners.
