Prince has to pay up in perfume dispute
Pop star Prince has been told to hand over almost $4 million to bosses at a fragrance company after failing to promote a line of scents for them.
The Purple Rain singer was sued by Revelations Perfume and Cosmetics in 2008 for pulling out of an alleged deal to endorse products inspired by his 2006 album 3121.
In legal papers, the company's lawyers claimed bosses spent a
fortune on the venture but Prince didn't honor his commitment to
promote the perfume.
Revelations executives accused the pop star of refusing to give
media interviews and attend in-store events they set up for
him.
He also turned down a TV interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2007,
which he had allegedly agreed to, and refused to distribute samples
of the perfume at his concerts.
A New York Supreme Court judge ruled in the company's favor and
confirmed the award on Friday (13Apr12).
