Police flock to Stephen Collins' home over false alarm

Police officers swarmed to actor Stephen Collins' home in California on Tuesday evening (07Oct14) following false reports of a gunshot.

The former 7th Heaven star hit headlines on Tuesday when audio surfaced of him allegedly confessing to molesting young girls during a therapy session with his estranged wife Faye, who secretly taped the conversation back in 2012.

Members of the press were camped outside his home in the San Fernando Valley in California in the wake of the news and a witness reported hearing a gunshot from inside the property.

Police rushed to the scene only to discover it was a false alarm and no incident had occurred.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department tells People.com, "He's not dead; he's alive... He was not at home at the time of the alleged incident, and there's no evidence of any gun shot."

New York police officials are investigating the molestation claims. Since the news broke, the 67 year old has been dropped from the cast of Ted 2 and has resigned from the National Board of the Screen Actors Guild.
