One Direction have been listed in a High Court action in Ireland.

Niall Horan and his bandmates Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and former member Zayn Malik were all listed in the action filed by representatives of Irish law firm Smyth & Son on behalf of a client named David Lewis.

According to editors at the Irish Independent, British musician Jamie Scott and U.S. songwriters Julian Bunetta and John Ryan are also named in the action.

All three have been involved in the production and writing of the group's songs since their 2013 album Midnight Memories.

A number of music and entertainment companies are also named in proceedings including Cowell's company Simco, the TV business behind The X Factor; and Sony Music Entertainment UK.

Details about why the action has been brought against the boyband are yet not known, as documents outlining the specifics of the action have not yet been filed with the court.

A date when hearings into the case will begin is also yet to be set.
