Olivia Wilde to make Broadway debut in 1984 stage adaptation

Olivia Wilde will make her Broadway debut in the new stage adaptation of 1984.

The TRON: Legacy actress will star alongside Tom Sturridge and Reed Birney in the play, based on George Orwell's novel. The production is slated to open at the Hudson Theater in June (17), following a run in London's West End.


Wilde will play Julia, a woman protagonist Winston Smith (Sturridge) has an affair with. Suzanna Hamilton tackled the role in the 1984 film. Birney will play spy O'Brien, who was portrayed by Richard Burton in the movie.

The stageshow will be directed by Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan.

1984 centers on citizens living in a war-ravaged world ruled by Big Brother.
