Nicki Minaj takes shots at Donald Trump on Black Barbies track
Rapper Nicki Minaj has taken aim at President-elect Donald Trump in a new song, revealing she is "praying" for the future of American immigrants.
The Starships hitmaker, who is originally from Trinidad and Tobago, has recorded a remix of rap duo Rae Sremmurd's hit tune Black Beatles and renamed it Black Barbies, a reference to her fan following.
In the lyrics, she calls out Trump for vowing to deport all illegal
immigrants in the run up to last week's (08Nov16) election, and
touches on her fears for undocumented U.S. residents now the
Republican is set to become the country's next leader.
"Island girl, Donald Trump want me go home," she spits in one line,
adding, "Now I'm praying all my foreigns (sic) don't get
deported."
Nicki announced the news of the remix to fans on Instagram early on
Tuesday (15Nov16), explaining she wanted to put her own twist on
the Mike Will Made-It-produced song to celebrate Rae Sremmurd's
Billboard Hot 100 number one success.
The rap act ended The Chainsmokers' 12-week reign on top of the pop
charts on Monday (14Nov16).
"2 Lil black kids got the NUMBER 1 RECORD IN THE COUNTRY & I'm
soooooo happy for Mike Will (sic)," she wrote.
Nicki isn't the only rapper to speak out against Trump's stunning
election upset - her boyfriend Meek Mill joined T.I. on the streets
of New York last Wednesday (09Nov16) to protest Trump's
victory.
Detailing why he decided to join the demonstrations, T.I. told U.S.
talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, "I voted and I've done everything that
I could prior to now, but after the decision of the election
happened, I just want to be able to look my kids in the eyes and
make sure that they know that I did everything that the
Constitution allowed me to do to show my objection to this
decision."
