New York police 'want Beyonce to apologise' for Super Bowl performance
The New York Police Department (NYPD) are reportedly seeking an apology from Beyonce after her performance at the Super Bowl.
According to reports, the NYPD believe that the star's half-time show at the Super Bowl on 7 February (16) promoted hostility towards police to the millions of viewers who were watching at home.
Beyonce's performance has incited controversy after it was believed
she was paying tribute to the Black Panthers movement during her
performance - a revolutionary black nationalist and socialist
organization.
The video for her new single Formation, which she sang for the
first time at the Super Bowl, is also believed to have an
anti-police message in light of the deaths of black men and women
at the hands of police officers across the country in recent
years.
Police in Miami have already called on other forces to boycott the
superstar, however the NYPD is the first to allegedly ask for a
public apology from the Crazy in Love hitmaker.
A police source told TMZ.com that they would like an explanation of
her controversial Super Bowl performance, and want her to publicly
criticize any violence or aggression towards police.
A representative for Beyonce has yet to comment on the report.
