New mom Morena Baccarin granted divorce
Actress Morena Baccarin has been granted a divorce from director Austin Chick, weeks after giving birth to her second child.
The Deadpool star called it quits with the filmmaker in 2015, four years after the couple wed in 2011, and now E! News reports a judge granted a "status only" divorce to the former Mr and Mrs. Chick on Thursday (17Mar16). This means that although Baccarin and her ex are no longer spouses in the eyes of the law, they will have to settle assets and other issues, such as custody of their two-year-old son, Julius, at a later date.
Coming to an agreement about guardianship over their child may
prove difficult, as Chick lives in Los Angeles, while Baccarin
resides in New York City full time.
Court papers suggest that although the parents originally agreed to
raise Julius in the Big Apple, Chick decided to leave New York for
the West Coast when he learned Baccarin had a new boyfriend, her
Gotham co-star Benjamin McKenzie. The subject of custody becomes
even more complicated because Baccarin was previously ordered to
pay Chick over $22,000-a-month in spousal and child support.
The actress is dealing with a number of life-altering personal
matters as she and McKenzie just welcomed their first child
together. The couple's daughter, Frances Laiz Setta Schenkkan, was
born on 2 March (16), and the lovebirds couldn't be more delighted
with their new bundle of joy.
"All are happy and healthy and appreciate the well-wishes," the
couple's representatives Jennifer Allen and Rhett Usry told USA
Today.
Baccarin and McKenzie began dating last summer (15), but didn't go
public with the romance until Morena confirmed the relationship in
court papers linked to her ongoing divorce and custody battle.
Chick filed to end the couple's four-year marriage last June
(15).
