Naomi Watts has to work to preserve romance
Actress Naomi Watts has to work hard on her relationship with Liev Schreiber, just like any other couple.
The 21 Grams star has been in a relationship with her fellow actor for the past 11 years and together they have two sons, but Naomi insists celebrities are no different in having to strive to keep the chemistry alive.
"Relationships are hard whether you're famous or not," she told Los
Angeles Confidential. "I don't know anyone who doesn't have to work
on it. Being an actor doesn't change anything. I'm sure it's the
same if you're a doctor or a couple of lawyers. You have
high-pressure jobs, lots of hours, stresses that come unexpectedly
- and you have to figure out how to be present in the midst of it
all."
The couple has worked together on three films during its
relationship: 2006's The Painted Veil, 2013's anthology comedy
Movie 43 and upcoming movie The Bleeder.
Naomi also has the latest installment of the Divergent franchise -
Allegiant - to promote, after joining the movie series in last
year's (15) hit Insurgent as Evelyn.
"It's something of a stretch but in terms of character, Evelyn is
someone I can appreciate, she is a survivor and she's made the most
of her experience despite a bunch of twists and setbacks," the
47-year-old explained.
Having been in the movie business for 30 years and with two Academy
Awards nominations under her belt, Naomi is not resting on her
laurels, and continues to strive to be the best actress she can
be.
"This isn't the life I imagined," she added. "In many ways, it's
far, far better, and yet I look at what's possible - I mean, look
at Frances McDormand or Helen Mirren, or, come on, Meryl Streep -
and I go, 'Okay, there's still a lot of room to grow and
improve."'
