Missy Elliott injured on music video set
Rapper Missy Elliott was left bleeding on the set of her new music video after suffering a number of painful cuts while wearing a tracksuit made from broken glass.
The Work It singer, who last released an album in 2005, launched her music comeback with the release of the promo for WTF (Where They From), featuring Pharrell Williams, last week (ends15Oct15).
In the video, Elliott wears a tracksuit, gloves and sunglasses
adorned with broken glass to create a mirror ball effect, and she
admits the costume caused her a lot of pain.
"We collectively knew it had to have some kind of iconic outfit,"
she tells i-D magazine. "We all came up with the glass outfit,
which was the hardest thing to wear because it was really cut up
glass so I was bleeding and everything! I was so agitated but I had
to get it done... I was bloody and bloodied. There was blood
everywhere!"
Elliott spent months working on her idea for the music video, and
insists she felt under pressure to get it right.
"The pressure was really on," she adds. "I knew that people know me
for my (creative) videos and so the expectation from those who grew
up on my music was high..."
She admits waiting for the promo's release was almost as
nerve-wracking as her performance with Katy Perry at the Super Bowl
Halftime Show in February (15): "The night before it came out, I
felt like a child waiting for Santa Claus to come down the
chimney... I was having anxiety and everything. I just hoped
everyone liked the video once it came out... I've performed for
some of the biggest crowds but the Superbowl has to be the scariest
moment."
