Miranda Lambert sparks fur furore after sharing gift online

Country star Miranda Lambert has come under fire from animal rights supporters for showing off two fur coats she received as gifts for Christmas.

The Mama's Broken Heart singer took to Instagram on 26 December (15) to share a snap of herself modelling one of two family heirlooms she had been given by her grandmother for the holidays.

"'I'm so fancy... You already know", she captioned the image, quoting lyrics from Iggy Azalea's Fancy hit.

"My Nonny gave me two of her fur coats!" she added. "I definitely know where I got my love for DIAMONDS, FUR and WHISKEY!"

She also uploaded a photo of her beloved grandma.

The posts didn't sit well with many of her followers, who took aim at Miranda and expressed their disappointment at the star for her apparent love of animal pelts.

The social media pictures have also been condemned by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' (PETA) Senior Vice President Lisa Lange.

"We had higher hopes," reads a statement. "Since Miranda rescues dogs, we always thought she could see that whether fur comes from a mink, a fox, or a dog or a cat in China, the source is always a gentle animal who did not want to die."

Blake Shelton's ex-wife has yet to respond to the online criticism.

Ironically, Miranda co-founded the MuttNation Foundation with her mother Beverly in an effort to "end animal cruelty, neglect and homelessness", while the charity also provides support for animal shelters.
