Miley Cyrus raising funds for Planned Parenthood
Miley Cyrus has teamed up with artist Marilyn Minter to sell artwork and T-shirts to raise money for non-profit organization Planned Parenthood.
The Wrecking Ball singer posed for a photography session with Marilyn, and a print showing the peroxide blonde star behind steamy glass will be sold online to raise money for the organization, which provides free reproductive health services and is under threat from politicians trying to defund it.
Miley and Marilyn announced their collaboration at the Planned
Parenthood Spring Luncheon in the Pierre Hotel in New York on
Thursday (14Apr16), when Miley appeared via video link to present
Marilyn with the organization's Woman of Valor honor.
“Hello, everybody at the Planned Parenthood luncheon. I’m super
sorry I couldn’t be there," Miley said in a video taken from her
bed. "Thanks for having me in my bed to present Marilyn Minter with
the Woman of Valor award. It is much deserved, Marilyn, and a huge
honor to present this to you, but first, I want to unveil our
M&M collaboration and hopefully make some big bucks for Planned
Parenthood.”
Only 50 prints have been produced and will cost $5,500 each , with
all of the profits going to the organization. Fashion designer Marc
Jacobs will sell T-shirts featuring additional images from the
shoot on his site and in his stores from 16 May (16).
"I mean, this is a really talented young activist, and I’m so proud
of her," Marilyn said onstage. "She’s planning to do a lot more,
too. This is only the beginning.”
Miley is currently in Los Angeles, where she has been spotted with
former fiancee Liam Hemsworth, sparking rumors they are back
together. They attended the premiere of The Huntsman: Winter's War,
which stars his brother Chris, but avoided the red carpet on Monday
(11Apr16).
Liam recently told Australia's TV Week that he is "not engaged",
but he did not confirm their rekindled relationship.
