Miley Cyrus' homeless pal Jesse Helt jailed for probation violation
Miley Cyrus' homeless pal Jesse Helt has been sentenced to six months behind bars for violating his probation.
The 22 year old turned himself in to police in his native Oregon in August (14), days after accompanying the Wrecking Ball hitmaker to the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles.
Helt was booked for breaking the terms of his probation relating to
a 2010 burglary, after which he was convicted of criminal mischief
and criminal trespass.
He returned to an Oregon court on Tuesday (07Oct14), when he begged
the judge overseeing his case for leniency, saying, "I want to be
seen as a good person, not as a nuisance to society."
Judge Monte Campbell considered his plea, but decided to sentence
Helt to six months in Polk County Jail. He did, however, grant the
young man credit for the 57 days already served since surrendering
to cops.
Helt was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs to begin his jail
term.
Cyrus invited Helt to be her date to the MTV prizegiving and
allowed him to accept her Video of the Year award on behalf of all
homeless people in the country in a bid to raise awareness about
the plight of displaced youths.
