Max George eyes charity boxing bout with One Direction
Max George, The Wanted star, has invited rival boyband One Direction to step into a boxing ring so they can settle their ongoing feud with an old-fashion punch-out and raise money for charity at the same time.
The Glad You Came hitmaker clashed with Zayn Malik in December (12) after the One Direction singer alleged in a post on Twitter.com his fellow Brit had contracted a sexually transmitted disease.
Max George challenged Malik to meet him face-to-face at an all-star
Christmas concert in New York the following week, but the encounter
never happened and the two groups have continued to throw shots at
one another ever since.
The Wanted members are now keen to put an end to the fall-out and
Max George is convinced a five-on-five boxing match with their pop
foes would be a top draw for fans eager to see their idols battle
it out in person.
He tells the New York Daily News, "We would like a boxing match -
them against us. It would be brilliant for TV, and I have no
problem with it at all...
"If they have got an issue, why don't we actually do something
financially - like make some money for charity and blow off some
steam in the boxing ring? I don't think there is a better idea
other than that I don't want anyone to get savagely hurt."
However, his bandmate Jay McGuiness is convinced a charity brawl
between The Wanted and One Direction will only heighten tensions
between the groups.
He says, "We haven't spoken. I think no matter how much you try to
avoid it, people are always gearing up for, you know, what do you
think of them, what do they think of you.
"It's going to be really hard to ever have a real friendship, and
we don't see them enough for that. We're not going to lose any
sleep over it."
