Pop superstar Mariah Carey is to kick off the holiday season by leading the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

The Hero singer is among the acts taking to the streets of the Big Apple for a star-studded show as part of the annual celebrations.

Mariah will be joined by Jordin Sparks, Panic! At the Disco, Train, Trey Songz, Daughtry, Jake Owen, Pat Benatar, Jennifer Nettles and Questlove for the 89th annual parade on 26 November (15).

"The 89th edition of Macy's famed holiday procession promises to deliver an unrivaled spectacle of magic for millions of spectators lining the streets of New York City and millions more watching it unfold in homes across the nation," says Amy Kule, executive producer of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Mariah is working on a number of festive projects this year (15) - she is releasing a children's book and a make-up line for MAC inspired by her hit holiday song All I Want For Christmas Is You, and she is also directing a film titled Mariah Carey's Christmas Project.
