Lindsay Lohan was in the running for Hangover role

Lindsay Lohan missed out on a leading role in The Hangover after director Todd Phillips determined she was too young to play a Las Vegas stripper.

The Mean Girls star was 22 years old when she met with the moviemaker and discussed playing the character Jade in the 2009 comedy.

Phillips opted not to hire Lohan and cast Heather Graham instead, and he now tells The Hollywood Reporter, "Honestly, it felt like she ended up being too young for what we were talking about."

But the director wants to make it clear Lohan didn't turn the role down: "People love to attack her for everything, like, 'Ha, she didn't see how great The Hangover was going to be. She turned it down'. She didn't turn it down. She loved the script, actually. It really was an age thing."

Phillips also reveals he had Jake Gyllenhaal in mind for a role in the first Hangover film, but ended up changing his mind.

The third and final film in The Hangover trilogy will hit cinemas this summer (13).
