Lena Dunham highlights pro-choice debate with nude bath snap

Lena Dunham posted a nude picture of herself on the Girls set with pal Jemima Kirke to highlight the pro-choice abortion debate.

The 30-year-old Girls star is pictured in a bathtub with her hand on pregnant Jemima's swollen tummy in the throwback snap she posted on Instagram on Thursday.

Alongside the image Lena shared a long caption reiterating her views about a woman's legal right to choose whether or not she will have an abortion."

"Throwback to summer 2012 on the set of Girls, when Jemima was pregnant with her second child. What's so beautiful to me about this photo right now is choice - I got to watch my friend since childhood CHOOSE to become a mother," she wrote.

"She had the personal and emotional resources to support that choice. She didn't have her hand forced by lawmakers who would never understand her reality or respect her humanity."

Lena has long been an advocate for the pro-choice movement, and she went on to express her support for the many women around the world who may be denied the same choices as her pal.

"Sending love and strength to every woman around the world who is being denied that choice. We won't stop fighting for you," she added.

Lena revealed in a 2015 interview with Elle Magazine that the issue of abortion rights has always been important to her because her mother explained it to her very early in life.

"I knew that she and her comrades could remember a time when abortions were illegal but happened anyway, and when she said "back alley" I pictured the dark streets of Oliver Twist. She taught me to say 'anti-choice' instead of 'pro-life'—'we are all pro-life, sweetie,'" she said.
