Laura Mvula dropped by record label
British singer Laura Mvula has been dropped by her record label.
The Green Garden singer released her 2013 debut album Sing to the Moon and its follow-up The Dreaming Room last year (16) with RCA Victor, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment, but on Thursday (26Jan17) she revealed they have now parted ways.
"so sad Sony have dropped me today but thankful for where they've
gotten me to," she tweeted. "Excited for the future. so much music
I want to write," followed by a disappointed face and excited face
emojis.
Since she made the announcement, Laura, who was nominated for the
prestigious Mercury Music Prize for both her albums, has received
an outpouring of support online from her fellow musicians, many of
which she retweeted.
Ellie Goulding wrote, "@lauramvula I think you are wonderful Laura.
On to new exciting things," while KT Tunstall added, "Big love to
you @lauramvula - get ready to fly higher than ever before."
English band Bastille posted, "@lauramvula We all think you're
brilliant Laura, and cannot wait to hear what you do next," and
actress Cynthia Erivo wrote, "@lauramvula so much love to you love,
you have beauty we are all waiting to see!!"
Laura also retweeted a number of messages from fans outraged by the
news, including one who posted, "Literally 2/2 of your albums were
nominated for f**king Mercury Prizes!! What do they want from you,
to learn how to fly??!!!"
The news comes soon after the 30-year-old learned she didn't
receive a single BRIT Award nomination on 14 January (17). She
revealed on Twitter she was "genuinely hurt" by the snub and that
she was feeling "not quite good enough" as she shared a picture of
the British Female Solo Artist nominees, which included Ellie,
Lianne La Havas, Nao, Emeli Sande and Anonhi.
