Late singer Christina Grimmie honoured with new single
Late singer Christina Grimmie has been honoured with a new single released by former The Voice contestant Jacquie Lee.
The 19-year-old released the music video for Somebody’s Angel on Thursday (15Dec16), which highlights the tragedies that have taken place in 2016, including her friend Christina's death, terrorist attacks in Brussels and Nice, France, and the Orlando nightclub massacre.
"I felt like this year we really needed it," Jacquie, who came
second on season five of the singing contest, told People. "We
needed to all feel like we were taking this on together, especially
near the holidays."
The music video also features news clips covering the deaths of
music legends Prince and David Bowie, actor Gene Wilder, and former
world champion boxer Muhammad Ali.
"Obviously Christina inspired the song, but it woke me up to all of
the tragedies that go on every day," Jacquie explained. "I feel
like those words really helped me get through Christina’s passing,
so I wanted to make it open to everyone and tribute every person
that we’ve lost this year."
The emotional video ends with touching footage of Christina and
Jacquie performing together, along with a sweet message, "In memory
of all those who are Somebody's Angel now."
Christina was shot and killed by Kevin Loibl at a post-concert meet
and greet in Orlando, Florida on 10 June (16), before the deranged
fan took his own life.
Following her death, Christina coach on The Voice, Maroon 5
frontman Adam Levine, offered to pay for her funeral, while Selena
Gomez's stepfather Brian Teefey, who had served as the young star's
manager, created a GoFundMe page to raise money to support the
family.
And last month (Nov16), the family of the 22-year-old The Voice
finalist revealed they will do their utmost to ensure her legacy
lives on.
"As her family, we are fully committed to continuing her legacy as
she would have wished and will be constantly updating you, the
'frands', with all Christina-related activities, including her
unreleased music and new mixes of existing music," the statement
read.
