Lamar Odom responds to Khloe Kardashian's divorce filing
Lamar Odom has responded to estranged wife Khloe Kardashian's divorce filing, asking a judge to refuse the reality star spousal support.
Khloe split from the sports star in December, 2013, and first moved to officially end their marriage in July, 2015, after rumours swirled of the sports star's alleged affairs. She called off proceedings last October (15), following Lamar's overdose at a brothel in Las Vegas.
However, in May (16), Khloe filed for divorce a second time, citing
irreconcilable differences. At the time, a source told People.com
she lodged the papers because she "needs to move on with her
life".
Now, the 36-year-old basketball player has responded to his
estranged wife's filing in his own Los Angeles court papers,
submitted on Friday (08Jul16). He also cites irreconcilable
differences for the split, while he is requesting a judge deny the
32-year-old Keeping Up With the Kardashians star spousal
support.
Both parties list the date of separation as 13 December, 2013.
According to TMZ.com, the former couple has a pre-nuptial agreement
in place and has already agreed to pay for its own attorneys.
Now Lamar has officially responded to Khloe's divorce petition, the
proceedings will usually take around six months, meaning the couple
could be legally single by the end of the year (16).
Ever since Lamar's health scare, the two have remained close, and
Khloe is still upset about her failed marriage, recently insisting
she still doesn't like the word divorce.
In an essay for Lena Dunham's Lenny Letter back in May (16), Khloe
wrote, "I've been blessed with a lot in my life, and I've also had
challenges. It was a challenge for me when I decided to get
divorced. At my core, I don't believe in divorce, but I came to a
point in my marriage where I had to make the choice to take care of
my own mental and emotional well-being in order to protect myself
and my happiness."
But Khloe is still open to the idea of remarrying Lamar in the
future - in a episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians earlier
this year (16), she discussed the possibility while travelling with
Lamar, mum Kris Jenner, and other members of her famous family, but
said, "We're we're definitely getting out of this marriage because
it's been a little tainted."
