Lady Gaga set to become the first singer to perform in space

Lady Gaga is set to take her talents to outerspace and become the first musician to perform in orbit.

The Born This Way hitmaker and her beauty team have booked seats on a Virgin Galactic ship and Gaga will reportedly sing a song which will be broadcast from space as part of the Zero G Colony tech festival in New Mexico in 2015.

A source tells Us Weekly magazine, "She has to do a month of vocal training because of the atmosphere", adding she has taken out "a ridiculous life insurance policy" just in case anything goes wrong.

The pop superstar joins Ashton Kutcher, Justin Bieber and Leonardo DiCaprio, who have already signed up for the Virgin Galactic program; the stars have paid $250,000 to secure their spots.

The flight guests will experience a few minutes of weightlessness and a view of the earth from 62 miles (99.7 kilometres) above the earth - the internationally accepted boundary of space.
